Here are some information about the Events organized by CIRC during the Reception Period.
Arrival day (Autumn reception event only)
During this day CIRC will offer guidance service to the city from the Landvetter Airport. We will be at the airport and we will hand you out free bus tickets to get to the city center. Also, we will give you directions in order to help you find your new home!
Note: We are going to wear yellow shirts, have a Chalmers, CIRC and Swedish flags, so should be quite visible. So keep your eyes open!
You can find people from CIRC helping you find your way at one of the biggest places to change busses or trams, Korsvägen!
Also: If you are already in Gothenburg, please don’t come to the airport since the solely purpose of this event is to help newly arriving students find their way to the city.
You’re first official day at Chalmers! A series of presentations will be conducted by Chalmers, the Student Union and CIRC. On this day you will get all the important information you need as well as meet your Phadder. You will also get the welcome bag with sim cards, sporks, maps and much more.
Digital Registration for Erasmus and Master students (The Most Important one)
Register for your courses at your program – mandatory!
Being admitted to a Chalmers Program is not the same as being registered. You need to register for all your courses in your program in order to attend any course. The registration will be done online, it’s your own responsibility to make sure you are registered.

On these days, you will get the grand tour of the Campuses, learn some fun facts and hopefully pick up some Chalmers jargon by the end of the tour. Come and find out more about the places where you can grab a quick lunch, buy good coffee, buy your course material, find a quiet place to study or cool off after a long day.
Most of you probably need to buy some basic stuff like furniture, blankets, pillows, cutlery and so on. If you need to get things at IKEA or just want to join the crowd, you are welcome to join us! Participate in the IKEA challenge by taking the pictures of you and your Phadder group in IKEA. Be creative and go crazy!
Park hangout (Autumn reception event only)
We will enjoy the afternoon in Gothenburg’s biggest park, Slottsskogen. You can try your hand at some traditional Swedish games like brännboll and kubb or you can just enjoy the weather -hopefully.
It is a city tour that will make you to explore Gothenburg with your new friends while solving riddles, doing funny bonuses and taking lots of pictures. This will make you earn points and friendly competition with other Phadder groups while doing some fun things around the city.
It’s one of the most appreciated “non-traditional traditions”, which people and students in this country have grown fond of. Every Friday, some pubs and restaurants have Afterwork specials with a free buffet and happy hour prices in the bar.
You will coordinate within your Phadder Group at what time you will depart.
How to get there?
- Take the tram 11 to Saltholmen.
- Take a ferry to an island of your choice. Recommendations are Styrsö or Vrångö.
- Have a great time with your Phadder Group!
Notes: Prepare accordingly! This includes: Jacket, water, food and shoes for longer walks. There are very few supermarkets on the islands to buy stuff and especially on the weekends opening hours can be bad. Also, check with ferry times to come back to Gothenburg from the island so you don’t have to wait for long time at the ferry stop.
Some of our activities require tickets. This is because of the limited amount of people are allowed in the venues. There is a fee for these events, but it is important to know that as a committee of the Student Union, our purpose is not to make money from these events, so what you pay is to cover the venue rent, food, DJ’s, etc.. More Information about the ticket selling are given during the reception period.
Games and Sports Night
During this event you will have access to numerous board and team games from the CIRC office and to the motion hall in the student union building. It is a good occasion to pass the time together and to meet more students while playing and having fun.
Minigolf (Autumn reception event only)
If you’re looking for a way to make your Saturday a more fun day, you can go with your phadder group and play some minigolf. Challenge your phadder and your friends and let the game decide who’s gonna win!
Partying is fun, but what about parting in a train wagon!! In Chalmers you get a cool wagon just for fun, so come and join the party…It is one of the most fun party venues on campus, the Train Wagon. This is the first train party of the semester and it is a Chalmers tradition, so make sure to get a ticket soon!

Have you ever wondered how Swedish people enjoy the warm weather? With so much nature surrounding every city, most people like to spend their time at lakes while being sportive. To get a glimpse of what you can expect as a local, we offer this unique canoeing trip to a nearby lake where you will enjoy the feeling of being deep in nature and having fun on the water!
Wouldn’t it be awesome to be able to taste food from all over the world while also showing off famous food from your home country? The international dinner is your event then! Here every participant cooks and brings a few portions of food that is specific to their own nationality. This then turns into a buffet of food from all over the world!
Additionally, we will focus on socializing and more unique parts of your country, so use the open stage and sing traditional songs or just tell famous jokes that just don’t work in English.
Info: Please be aware of allergies and food preferences while making your food and if you can substitute an ingredient to another one that more people can enjoy, it would be much appreciated! Also please note that due to restrictions, this is a non-alcoholic event and any kind of alcohol is not permitted!
Swedish Sittning is a dinner party to introduce the swedish culture to the international students. It’s a really nice way to know about the swedish culture and some of the special, famous swedish traditions. There’s going to be swedish food, singing, swedish people and many more fun activities.
What is a Sauna?
Well, a sauna is basically a small cabin which has a heating facility. This enables the cabin to have raised levels of temperature, usually in the order of 70 – 90°C. We must mention that Chalmers owns one of the biggest wood fired saunas in all of Scandinavia. This monster can seat up to 60 people at the same time!
So, What is a “Sauna Trip”?
For this trip you will leave from Chalmers on a bus and travel about 45 minutes to a beautiful lake called Sandsjön, East of Gothenburg. The Sauna sits on the very edge of the lake, so you can swim as well! The Sauna is in a cosy cabin that has a kitchen and dining area with a fireplace.
After you get there, you will have fun playing some games and chopping wood for the Sauna, after which you will be able to get ready to get into the Sauna which will probably by now be nice, hot and ready for you! Once you are done with the Sauna, we will serve you some snacks or the very famous SWEDISH FIKA in the dining hall where you will be able to eat, sing, drink and be merry until it is time for you to leave!
Are you ready for an otherworldly laser battle? During this event, two teams will fight to the last shot in an exciting arena spanning two floors. Over the 30 minutes of battle adrenaline level will be soar sky high and reflexes will be put to the test!
