Getting from the Airport

If you arrive in Gothenburg on the official arrival day, you’ll receive a free ticket for the Airport Coaches. The CIRC team will be at the airport to welcome you and assist you in getting to your accommodation.

If you travel on a different day, use Flygbussarna to reach Gothenburg, then use Västtrafik to get to your accommodation.

Opening a Bank Account

Some banks require a Swedish personal number or ID. You can try SEB or Nordea.

Getting a SIM Card

CIRC provides a free SIM card during the campus tour. You can also buy SIM cards from:

Seeing a Doctor:

Vårdcentralen is your primary care facility, assigned based on your accommodation location.
In emergencies: call 112
For advice: call 1177

️Medical Insurance:

EU/EEA/Nordic/Swiss students: Use your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or form E128/E111.
Non-EU students: If staying over a year and have a Swedish personal number, you are insured. Register with Försäkringskassan to access full benefits.

Language & Personal Number

What is a Personal Number?

If staying 1+ year, apply for a personal number at Skatteverket.
Format: YYMMDD-XXXX
Required for banks, healthcare, contracts, etc.

Once received, update your number across all systems (Chalmers, SGS, CSN, Student Union). If unsure, visit the info desk.
You need a fixed address – consult Skatteverket if yours isn’t ready yet.

Learning Swedish:

• Tuition-paying/Scholarship students: Free classes from Folkuniversitetet
• Others: 20% discount with Student Union membership
• SFI: Free Swedish classes via the city. Long waiting lists – apply early.
